A agroindústria no bairro do Porto: Pelotas-RS (1911-1922).

Abstract

This research focuses on agro-industry at the Porto neighborhood, located by the São Gonçalo Channel, in Pelotas-RS, Brazil. It discourses on historical issues about industrialization, tells the place’s history and describes the different manufactures and industries and the architecture of their buildings. The study begins a year before the celebrations of Pelotas’ centenary, in 1911, with the publication of Notícia Descritiva das Fábricas de Pelotas, by Alberto Coelho da Cunha. It finishes in 1922, when the centenary of Brazil’s independence was celebrated. The methodology used in the research was historical, based on written and iconographic documentation and comparison of the plants.
