Abstract
This selected study is based on teacher’s experiences. In only a few years of career they are confronted with situations that are, to my judgment, harmful to their health and other public employees. Because of this, the presented study seeks to understand if teachers, which are temporarily out of school service or with reduced workload, have higher risk of health issues due to the work conditions and its precariousness. The current society lives based on the logic of capital, in which labor has a monetary value, allowing us to earn for a living. Since mankind no longer has its integrality it doesn’t produce what is consumed, and doesn’t consume everything that is produced. Consequently, labor became strange, abstract, a product to exchange for another, a commodity. The focus herein are teachers for physical education from schools of the 5th Coordenadoria Regional de Educação in the city of Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, who are temporarily unable to work or to execute all functions appropriately because of health issues. The study is characterized as an exploratory qualitative research using the semi-structured interview to draw a relation between the teacher’s health and labor relations. The data found demonstrate that sickness due to work, its relation to the health, and the precariousness of the public schools negatively impacts the teaching career.
