A presença francesa na arquitetura pelotense: um estudo sobre o arquiteto Julio Delanoy

Abstract

The foreigner immigrants, specially the Europeans, took relevant role in the process of formation of the urban spaces and in the spatial configuration of the towns and cities within the context of the modern Brazilian society in the beginning of the XX century. Having this context in mind, this research aimed at presenting the life history of Julio Delanoy, a french engineer and architect, who after becoming a professional in france immigrated to Brazil in 1926 and established himself in the pelotense society (RS-Brazil). The research was based on concepts of collective memory and biographical methods in the analysis of life histories, relationships, individuals, society and context. The methodology involved bibliographic and documental survey in personal and public collections and the registration and classification of the designed architecture, in an attempt of understanding the relationship of the subject with the context and his involvement with the local society
