Quem são e o que querem: formandos em Odontologia no estado do Rio Grande do Sul

Abstract

Knowing in detail the profile of future graduates of an undergraduate degree is interest of community and educational institutions that graduate this student. In Brazilian the labor market and the colleges of the dentistry is changing. The present study aims to characterize the profile of graduates in dentistry in 2012 in the state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS), as well as their future career prospects. Participants were 467 students (69.60%) who were studying in the final year of dentistry colleges of the nine participants of this research. Data collection was conducted through self administered questionnaire with questions divided into three main blocks: pre-academic, academic and professional future. A descriptive analysis was performed to determine the absolute and relative frequency of variables. The test possible associations was performed by bivariate analysis using the chi-square test. It was found that 65.3% of the students were from private colleges, the average age of students was 24.8 years and the average income of the sample was R$ 7.740,33. Of the total respondents, 55% already have employment opportunities. Urban municipalities of the interior are the preference of 72.3% of students to exercise their activities.As women are the majority in the colleges, as well as the white skin people.Despite market changes students are motivated to become dentists and target a high future income, for that they will specialize and work in the public and private sectors
