Um retrato da sub-representação política no Rio Grande Do Sul (2016-2020): uma análise sobre o desempenho de mulheres negras nas eleições municipais

Abstract

This dissertation is the result of research that problematizes the political underrepresentation of black women, focusing on Rio Grande do Sul, from the 2016 and 2020 elections. Thus, based on the results of each election, we traced the socioeconomic profile of the elected women, identified the political parties of origin of the candidates, and investigated the access to campaign financing, which allowed us to analyze the performance obtained by black women candidates. The data was collected from official websites, such as the electoral repository of the Superior Electoral Court and the Regional Electoral Court, as well as from non-governmental websites and social networks of female candidates. Based on the theories that deal with the political (under)representation of women and blacks, we problematize the data collected. We conclude that although the representation of black women is low, due to a combination of the challenges that keep women and blacks out of politics, there are possibilities for social transformation, based on the political practice of elected women that tension the political space.
