Apropriação do ambiente construído: ocupação e uso do Parque Jaime Lerner em Porto Alegre-RS

Abstract

The appropriation of territory occurs through the intrinsic relationship between man and space. Regarding public space in the city, it concerns the interventional aspect carried out by man, where his behavior has a lot to say about these spaces. It is through the analysis of the person-environment relationship and the behavior produced, that we seek to evaluate the revitalized space of section 3 of the Guaíba River shore in Porto Alegre - RS, Parque Jaime Lerner. This dissertationn focuses on evaluating, describing and understanding relationships in built space regarding the occupation, use and appropriation of public space – urban park. In addition to discussing the historical context of the place, the evolution of the site in the city's original territory, and looking at socio-spatial and everyday aspects. Built between 2019 and 2021, therefore a recent revitalization work in the section abandoned for decades, it instigates research that begins shortly after the Park's inauguration, during the pandemic, and ends during the 2024 flood. In order to fulfill the objective of qualitative naturalistic research, the qualitative methods of post-occupancy assessment, perception and environmental psychology were used. The following research methods were used: Physical Territorial Survey, Walkthrough Tours and Place-Centered Behavioral Map, in order to understand and describe the relationship between users regarding the appropriation of the Park. As a result of applying the methods, the study shows the occupation and use of space by users in the mornings and late afternoons, during the week and weekends in the winter and spring periods. In addition to concluding on the appropriation of the park by users, it looks at the appropriation of the space by public authorities and appropriation by the flood waters of May 2024. In this way, relevant data is provided, described and documented about the appropriation of the park in its first two years: In which areas the occupation is highest, at what times of the week, the most used areas, and where it is least occupied and used. Finally, what is intended with the contemporary approach to waterfront revitalization is to present data on revitalization, relevant for promoting reflections, in addition to promoting projects for open and public spaces and revitalizations in abandoned or degraded areas of cities.
