“Eu sou mulher, me ouçam rugir”: Cruella e a ressignificação do feminino-vilão nas produções cinematográficas Disney

Abstract

The present dissertation aims to weave historiographical reflections on the redefinition of the female-villain category in pop culture through the character Cruella De Vil. Analyzing this character from its conception in Dodie Smith's 1956 narrative to the most recent live-action proposal Cruella, the discussion revolves around the issue of the performative construction of femininity historically crystallized by Walt Disney Pictures studios in their princesses and villains, considering the historical and cultural contexts in which each work was produced, thus highlighting the challenges and transformations in these archetypes in light of the current century. Furthermore, the different constructions and representations of Cruella in literature and cinematography (based on Disney's works) are discussed, with a greater emphasis on the 2021 live-action where the character is portrayed as the protagonist of her own film, highlighting the changes in social and cultural perceptions of the female-villain.
