dc.description.abstractObjective: To investigate the environmental impacts caused by clay extraction for the production of ceramic products (bricks) in the municipality of Juruti-PA and to characterize the types of clays used in this process. Theoretical Framework: Based on NBR ISO 14001 (requirement 3.4.1), where environmental impact is defined as: "any modification of the environment, adverse or beneficial, resulting wholly or partially from the activities, products, or services of an organization," and on ABNT standards related to mineral characterization. Method: The methods used in this research describe and delimit the study area, assess the impacts caused by clay extraction in the municipality, and characterize the clays extracted for brick manufacturing. Results and Discussion: The results revealed the study area, the physical and chemical characteristics of the clays, the impacted areas, and the negligence of regulatory bodies toward small-scale mining operations. These entities leave workers and micro-entrepreneurs without proper information regarding suitable procedures for clay extraction and handling, creating risks to the environment and public health. Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of this research may influence practices in the field of Mining Engineering. These implications can extend to Geology, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, and Forestry Engineering. Originality/Value: The relevance and value of this research lie in its ability to reveal the characteristics of clay to local workers and raise awareness among sectors and individuals about the importance of environmental consciousness.pt_BR
