O que sobrou de nós: as escolhas expográficas do Memorial do Hospital Colônia Itapuã – RS.

Abstract

The present research aims to develop thoughts about the expographical choices observed at Memorial do Hospital Colônia Itapuã (Memorial HCI), said perceptions deriving from visits made in the years 2015, 2017 and 2018. This space of memories was inaugurated in 2014, in the city of Viamão, in Rio Grande do Sul, about the history of the hospital, nowadays with asylum aspects, but made to be the State’s Leprosarium, this fact highlights the peculiarities of this exposition, since its address traumatic memories related to a history of segregation of individual in the institutions. Aiming to understand the meaning given by the constructed narrative and exposed in Memorial HCI in addressing this Hospital and its patients/residents in its expographical choices, were researched the methodologies that could better fit the proposed theme. With the objective to elaborate, in the most objective way possible, an understanding about the materialities and the texts that the institution presents in it exhibition circuit it was used bibliographical and documental reascher, case study, the method of using also intense description of the visits and expography, analyses of the content of the expositive texts and interviews made with persons related with the organization and the elaboration of the exposition and its contents. This way, this dissertation shows several thoughts about the concept of heritage, the function of the museum, the role of the object for the evocation and preservation of the past, besides questions about the institutional discourse created and how it can affect the perceptions of the future generations about the past. Drawing the conclusion that there is the necessity of a constant work of questions and improvement when we talk about places that aim to keep heritage assets, having in mind that those affect also the construction of identity and that the idea of showing one single side of the facts can bring great informational losses.
