Habitação Social na América Latina: a contribuição teórica e projetual do arquiteto colombiano Germán Samper.

Abstract

Modern Urbanism after the Second World War entered a new phase when there was some reexamination of the dogmas from the interwar period. Some groups proposed a reconnection to certain categories of the conventional city, reflecting about the concept of identity, community, and investigating the structuring principles of urban growth. The architectural and urban proposals of the Colombian architect Germán Samper Gnecco were existed inserted intowithin this context and stood out for providing innovative solutions compared to the patterns of that time. In this circumstance, the research has a general objective of analyzing the proposals of collective housing elaborated by Samper in the period between the decades of 1950 to 1980. Trying to understand how the architect formed under the universalist Corbusian principles moved closer to the strategies critical of those same principlesto those principles, developing city and housing ideas so closely related to the local culture. The procedures employed for the methodological investigation encompassed literature review and architectural and urban analysis of some projects during the time frame proposed in the research. The research’s results demonstrated the relevance of Samper’s more than 40 years of exploration of social projects. The many experiments associated to the development of innovative concepts generated in several ways positive aspects, but mainly regarding the awakening of inhabitants' feeling of belonging - in different levels that have been developed – in the distinct proposed spaces.
