[Campo] Arte como sistema poético para medir, praticar e transportar territórios.

Abstract

This dissertation and master’s research has as object of study a poetic production developed between the years 2019 and 2021, constituted from displacements carried out in the farm where I grew up, located in Cerro da Fumaça, rural area in the city of Piratini that is located in the southern half of Rio Grande do Sul. In these displacements, I came across a series of rural activities carried out by my father, which are understood here as ways of practicing and expanding the presence of the body in space. Thus, measurement systems and instruments used in land cultivation are transfigured in this research into a poetic system to measure, practice and transport territories when used in conjunction with other artistic languages. In this way, I present photographic images, installations, video installations and propositions that aim to weave a symbiosis between bodies and exhibition environments, urban or rural and that refer to the field in which I grew up. As well as extrapolate it, by raising other relationships between the body and the world. Thus, I emphasize that the artistic production that I present here seeks to reveal different aspects that make up the rural daily life: such as the memory that is perpetuated in the cultivation of the land, through doing together, a logic that is installed in the works presented here. Furthermore, through the transposition of knowledge and portions of matter from this place to other contexts, a narrowing between places and times is sought. To elucidate my approach, this investigation dialogues with the production of artists who deal with issues such as: memory, body, space, landscape. For this, I comment on works by the following artists: Daniel Escobar, Helene Sacco, Cildo Meireles, Hélio Oiticica, Lygia Clark, Maria Helena Bernardes, among others. An interdisciplinary theoretical approach is also carried out, by bringing references from different fields of knowledge: Art, Philosophy, Geography, Mathematics, Sociology. Also noteworthy is the contribution of authors such as: Anne Cauquelin, Francesco Careri, Michel de Certeau, Paola Berenstein, Maurice Merleau Ponty, Milton Santos, Robert Crease, among others. In this way, I reflect in this writing on the instances that involve my creation processes, the results achieved with the assembly and exhibition of the works and on the writing itself that encompasses the research.
