Trajetória biográfica de uma coleção arqueológica pré-colonial (1984-2020): o caso do Museu da Cidade do Rio Grande - MCRG.

Abstract

The present research of the master's thesis has as its structuring axis the theme of musealization of the archaeological heritage, and its insertion in the museum and patrimonial debates. It aimed to analyze the biographical trajectory of a precolonial archaeological collection, which is currently on display at the Museum of the City of Rio Grande (MCRG), in the extreme south of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Part of the observation that such collections, due to the fragility of contextual data (chronological-spatial), related to information from broader socio-cultural contexts, undergo a double process of abandonment in relation to the indigenous past: the first occurs from the scientific point of view due to the absence of studies on these types of collections, and a second, social and symbolic, the effect of which results in the removal of society from the preservation of a long-lasting indigenous history. In relation to the methodological assumptions, the research is inserted in the qualitative studies, in this way, a survey of primary sources (documentation of the institution itself and formation of the collection), and secondary sources (structural and semistructured interviews with the patrimonial agents and other interlocutors) was carried out. ), who participated in the intra and extra-institutional displacements of objects belonging to the collection. While aspects of the biographical trajectory of this collection were identified, in particular, its extrinsic potential was highlighted, as an element of cohesion between the narratives constructed by the social actors and the archaeological heritage. The theoreticalmethodological discussion on the cultural biography of objects, which guided the construction of the dissertation chapters, was used as a strategy for (re) qualification of pre-colonial archaeological collections in the museum scene. The research results point to a necessary dynamization of information about the MCRG pre-colonial collection, suggesting new possibilities for investigation and social appropriation of memories referring to the indigenous past in contemporary Brazilian reality.
