Identidade e resistência na cultura negra através dos tempos: o movimento Charme (black music) em Pelotas

Abstract

In this dissertation, situated on the field of cultural manifestations involving black musicality, the results of the research developed with the objective of understanding the Charme movement, as a space for the strengthening of culture, of identity construction, full of afrodisporic images, symbols and meanings are presented. To better understand this space, the present study main objective is to investigate how the visitors of the Charm culture scenes in the city of Pelotas perceive the construction of their identities from the repertoire of elements present in the black music scenes from Pelotas, and how they experienced the right to the city in the realization of events involving black musicality. The research took place in the city of Pelotas/RS-Brazil, articulating the observation of the field to the conversational interview with an interviewed universe constituted by sixteen participants, divided into three groups: Artist (1), Attendees (9), Organizers (4) and Public Agents (2). It counted with five women and eleven men. The interviews were carried out with a semi-structured script with questions related to the strengthening of culture and the production of identity and resistance in Charm in Pelotas. To define the sample cut, it was decided to use the snowball sampling method, which made it possible to reach out to charmers, sympathizers, event producers and public authorities. The analysis of the interviews allowed us to understand how different generations perceive black musicality and its spaces of socialization as an integral part of the construction of identity and the right to the city. Thus, we tried to understand this generational context of involvement with black musicality, listening to their memories until the period between 2016 and 2018, when the Charm Movement was part of the cultural agenda in the revitalized Public Market of Pelotas, spreading musicality and black culture, ended unilaterally in 2018 by the local government. The musicality, dance, language, symbols found in Charm were presented as a powerful identity characteristic of the manifestation of black culture that still attracts equals, unites and strengthens the identity of the groups.
