Abstract

Architecture represents an important means of social analysis. I propose here a multidisciplinary analysis of Residencial Ana Terra - Pelotas/RS. The condominium was built between 1984 and 1985, has eight different blocks and floor plans. It is important to understand that these constructions meet the needs and pluralities of the families that live there, so that we can know whether or not we are producing effective architecture that improves people's lives and meets the demands of its inhabitants. It is through dialogue between areas that I propose to think about Residential, based on concepts such as: social ascension, fields of possibilities and individualism. The objective of this research is to understand what was being planned at the time of construction of the residential and what was/is being experienced, lived and transformed by the residents. Will people follow the needs plan? What motivates transformations, economic freedom or necessity? A bibliographic review was necessary, covering different areas of scientific knowledge. The work also involved conducting interviews, reports sent by interlocutors, field trips and surveying material at the Pelotense Public Library and at the Municipal Secretariat for City anagement and Urban Mobility. Which resulted in an ethnographic essay of the Residential that considers the process, which involves everything from the development of the condominium project to living in the present day. Without differences there is no interaction, the reconfiguration of spaces and the elements that will be built specifically for this interaction, build symbolisms of hierarchization, individualization and differentiation. By living in this condominium, the person has access to more than one's own house, but also garages and collective leisure areas, such as a swimming pool, ballroom and playground. Carrying out this work allowed me to observe and demonstrate that spaces are not always used as planned by the architect and that the residential is occupied by groups with different economic incomes. No less important is the finding that Architecture feeds the inhabitants' field of possibilities and their search for ascension, it also materializes the mechanisms of differentiation, individualization and segregation.
