O caminho do paciente infantil hospitalizado por meio da arquitetura: avaliações e percepções em conjunto com o olhar da criança em setor de internação pediátrica

Abstract

The humanization of healthcare facilities consists of a set of actions that encompass aspects of the built environment as well as the conditions in the provision of services in the hospital setting. When addressing this topic in hospital environments, it is common to focus on the services provided, but the architecture of the spaces is a contributing factor to this process. The presence of elements in the environment that evoke positive sensations such as comfort and tranquility while also stimulating the senses is extremely important, especially when dealing with hospitalized children. Therefore, this dissertation analyzes pediatric hospitalization environments, addressing architectural aspects that can contribute to creating humanized spaces. The research is conducted by gathering the perceptions and evaluations of users at the Hospital da Criança Santo Antônio in Porto Alegre, a national reference in highly complex pediatric care and home to the most modern pediatric unit in Rio Grande do Sul. The objective of the research is to examine how architecture can contribute to the humanization of spaces for hospitalized children and enhance the quality of user experience. The research methodology involves two phases, one document-based and one evaluative, with the application of questionnaires, the "poem of desires," and guided tours. Three groups participated in the research: pediatric patients, their caregivers, and hospital staff. The main outcome of the study is the perceptions and evaluations of users regarding the pediatric patient wards. The results reveal that, despite being a state-of-the-art hospital, some aspects need to be reevaluated, including issues related to privacy, thermal comfort, entertainment, and providing more stimuli for children. In terms of the perception and evaluation of the children regarding their hospital rooms, aspects such as play, colors, the presence of family, and the playful environment stand out. The results prioritize certain features to enhance the comfort and well-being of users, which can assist in future projects for these spaces, considering that these rooms are where children spend the majority of their time during hospitalization.
