A Promessa da Democracia: o discurso da Revista União Soviética em Foco sobre a Glasnost, a Perestroika e as relações entre URSS e Brasil, 1987-1990

Abstract

In this dissertation I analyze the magazine Soviet Union in Focus, which was a co-production between the Soviet News Agency Novósti and the carioca publisher Revan, the documentation was created in 1984, but due to the collection selected this work has the time cut from 1987-1990. With a propagandist character of the Soviet culture, politics, economy and society, the magazine functioned as a pamphlet of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in Brazil, seeking to present a new look and bring the two nations closer. Because of the time cut and its systematic I wondered what was the speech produced to disseminate the openings of the media, economy and politics that are Glasnost (transparency) and Perestroika (reconstruction); besides, he wanted to know how the relations between Brazil and the USSR were propagated. Methodologically I used the discourse analysis of Mouffe, the understanding about the Cultural Industry of Adorno and Horkheimer, along with the perspectives of Gramsci and Marx, building a Marxist analysis on the documentation. From the study I was able to understand that the discourse defended that the openings were the path that the Soviet country should follow to achieve what Lenin wanted in the early twentieth century. Projecting the concepts of freedom and democracy as methods for such, the magazine was mixing these three topics during the 34 editions studied and left to the spaces facing the two nations cultural, political and economic issues.
