Abstract

Urban growth dynamics has been an important object to understand the urban phenomenon and configurational systems. Urban sprawl and morphologies associated to dispersal urban forms have been a recurring problem on urban science, a dynamic that extends interfaces between urban system and natural landscape. This work identify relationships between urban morphology and natural landscape that emerge from urban growth articulated to water resources spatial scale, presuming that in macro spatial and long-term, city and environment could be reduced spatial conflicts. The urban phenomenon has a tendency to occur in isotropic planes, landscapes without restriction of nature environment. Urban growth occurs in concentric forms until interfaces with water resources, where urban growth continuity is restricted. From these places, urban growth occurs in areas beyond the water resources, in dispersal forms, replicating the landscape location patterns and growth morphologies. In this sense, the urban growth configures in spatial scale of water resources, urban growth morphological dynamics, alternating compression and fragmentation of urban form. This dynamic of urban growth is implemented in urban model SACI - City Environmental Simulator, to abstract the theoretical results to cellular automata logic and graph theory; allowing numeric correlation for reality of Pelotas [1815-1965]. From approaches based on empirical, theoretical and methodological studies, and system theory framework, the results can be replicated in future urban growth simulations, in special to study relations between urban form and natural landscape.
