Caetano Casaretto: Arquitetura Urbana em Pelotas/RS (1892-1931).

Abstract

The goal of this work is to present a research on aspects of private life, and especially the architectural work left by the builder Caetano Casaretto, between the years 1892 and 1931 in the city of Pelotas. The buildings produced by this descendant of Italian immigrants in this period are part of the transition of eclectic language, prevailed until the late nineteenth century, to the protomodernism language, developed from the early years of the twentieth century. The local economic growth provided by charqueadores production in the nineteenth century boosted the local urban development that eventually brought immigrants from around the world, both in technical and artistic. At first, these buildings were sponsored by money from the charque, and were gradually acquisitioning over new customers, as factory owners and merchants. In this sense, the study aims to produce knowledge through the development of an inventory of works of Caetano Casaretto, which may serve as a basis for future urban planning, aiming at the preservation of a considerable number of buildings.
