Abstract
The City of Pelotas, in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, is known for its significant
historical and architectural heritage. In the last few years, many initiatives have
been taken to redeem, preserve and value its architecture through interventions in
the buildings, involving the recuperation of structures, constructive and decorative
elements and adaptations of accesses for handicapped people. Some time after
the end of such works and the use of these spaces according to the purposes
proposed in the project, it is possible to notice evidences of pathological
manifestations. The present research aims at analyzing and diagnosing the
damages present in a public use building, of high cultural value, belonging to the
historical center of Pelotas – the Eliseu Maciel School, which went through a
revitalization process in 2007. Through registry survey, which includes the
architectural project and the building historical data, as well as the data referring to
the revitalization process, it was possible to identify and map the pre existing
pathological manifestations and the recidivist ones. This verification enabled
analyzing the efficiency of the intervention process concerning the capacity to
correct the pathological manifestations.
