Abstract

This thesis aims to analyze the construction of memories and identities of gauchos university students from regional film productions. The work is about gauchos films and deals with the aspects that make the film one of those responsible for the construction of collective memories and identities. Finally, the document analyzes as it has constructed the identity of the generation born between 1987 and 1997 and the interference of cinematography on memory and identity. Through quantitative research, seeks to know what young people think about the gaucho cinema for later, by research focus group, to understand what they feel these individuals on the films made by his countrymen. It was found that the low percentage of identification with the gauchos films is related to the massive presence of historical and epic films, the unification of gauchos in only one character, the presentation of a single gaucha identity state and the difficulty of access to films showing current ―gaúcho‖. Therefore, this research concluded that the students have identified themselves with the gaucho cinema, however it is necessary to increase access to regional production that shows the contemporary gaucho in order that a larger portion of young people will come to identify.
