Resposta comunitária ao desastre: o caso da boate Kiss (Santa Maria - RS)

Abstract

On January 27, 2013, a fire was started at the Kiss nightclub, in downtown Santa Maria – RS, leaving 242 people dead and more than six hundred people injured. In view of this, there were several forms of immediate collective response to the shock, and coping strategies undertaken by various groups in this city in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. This work investigates the conditions of occurrence of these acts that used the streets, squares, institutions, and above all, the place of the fire, revisited through the contents of the local media, the newspaper A Razão and the Diário de Santa Maria. These data are worked through Content Analysis, being reorganized through categories and thematic units that refer to the places of occurrence and the nature of the forms of response and represented through narratives that we call scenes. In this way, we undertook a mapping of the modes of responses undertaken by the local community until the year 2019, between the Kiss nightclubs building; the Municipal Sports Center; the streets; the Saldanha Marinho Square; the Franciscan and Marist Colleges; the Municipal Executive Office (SUCV); the City Council of Aldermen; the Public Ministry; and the Federal University of Santa Maria, mediated between thematic units referring to the moment of shock; the immediate response; and coping strategies. Furthermore, such mapping generated a spatialization proposition represented in an interactive digital map, accessed on a platform external to the text. Finally, this work offers a new reading of these many places of appropriation and significance, through the search for meanings and distinctions that gravitate around this situation.
