A qualidade do lugar na escola pública de periferia urbana: o caso da escola municipal de ensino fundamental Ferreira Vianna, Pelotas, RS.

Abstract

The present study approaches the issue of quality school environment, especially in public schools located in a suburban community, through a case study at the Municipal School of Basic Education Ferreira Vianna in the city of Pelotas, Brazil. The analysis is based on the importance of the physical environment as part of the educational process. It aims at deepening and contributing to the reflection on the quality of the school architecture when assessing the school environment quality in terms of technical, functional and behavioral point of view, with emphasis on the environment behavior relationship established through the user’s perception and expert evaluation. The methodology approaches the identification of environmental characteristics of a quality environment. Afterwards, it is further examined through the application of Post-Occupancy Evaluation-POE methods and techniques. Primary and Secondary researches are carried out. The primary research consists of walkthrough, questionnaires, interviews and wish poems, allowing a quality and quantitative approach. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) The result of the methods and techniques applied allowed to know the quality school environment, its strengths and weaknesses and understand the needs and values of different users. It has been proposed recommendations through this knowledge to ensure more comfortable and proper to humans accommodations.
