A relação entre a justiça e a condenação eterna na obra A Cidade de Deus de Santo Agostinho

Abstract

Justice has always been understood as the virtue that gives each one what is due, and Augustine completed his sense including God in this operation, demonstrating that it is also necessary to give to God what belongs to God. Divine justice demands love for him and for his next one, but man is unable to obey these norms, because when disobeyed God in the Fall, he inherited ignorance and weakness, that prevent you from doing good. God then provided an escape, sent Jesus to pay the price for human sin, and imputed his justice for whom that receive him. He becomes able to do good through divine grace, he lives for God, no longer for himself, his soul is resurrected in the first resurrection, he becomes a citizen of the City of God, and will live forever in eternal blessedness, as he will not be condemned when the Last Judgment occurs. But God’s righteousness will be fulfilled, so eternal condemnation and torture will await those who did not receive Christ in the life, lives for himself, not for God, did not have his soul reborn, therefore he is the target of condemnation, and has not moved from the City of Men to the City of God. At the Last Judgment, the bodies of both, faithful and unfaithful, will be resurrected, where the righteous will receive eternal life, and the unjust will receive eternal damnation.
