Entre a Pandemia e a Histeria: uma análise discursiva de pronunciamentos de Jair Messias Bolsonaro

Abstract

In 2020, the world experienced the beginning of several challenges, arising from a health crisis caused by the emergence of a new virus. In the midst of so many setbacks, numerous speeches against the preventive measures recommended by science began to circulate in the Brazilian media, with the main speeches coming from the country's greatest representative, Jair Messias Bolsonaro. Thus, the present study aims to analyze, based on the assumptions of the Materialist Discourse Analysis, the effects of meanings produced by the President when using the designation hysteria in March of the same year. The discursive sequences were cut and analyzed from the transcription of videos present in the most diverse platforms of the Web. By configuring the imaginary about the virus and the imaginary of oneself, we managed to reach the discursive functioning of the designation in the President's words, configuring, with the analysis, the discursive formation of identification as a discursive formation of the extreme right. With this, we come to the conclusion that the designation, when referring to health care, produces negative effects, which can change the behavior of Brazilians insofar as it delegitimizes the knowledge of science.
